What Happens To Skip Waste?

So, you’ve decided to remodel the kitchen and have hired your friendly neighborhood skip company to drop off a 6-yard skip. After a week of renovating, you’ve piled that skip high with the remnants of your old kitchen and are ready for it to be collected. The supportive and amazing staff from Wasteaway Nationwide have arrived and have loaded your waste onto their truck and you now stand at the end of your driveway waving them off, ready to enjoy a well-earned cuppa at your brand-new breakfast bar.

To you, that’s the end of your kitchen remodeling journey, but for your waste, it’s only the beginning! So, what exactly happens to your skip waste once it’s whisked away from your site?

Well for starters, it gets taken in for processing at our transfer station. A transfer station is a building and processing site for the temporary deposition of waste. Our drivers will come and drop off your collected skip waste and will then be sent out to collect another!

Once arrived, your waste gets manually sorted into separate materials! That’s right, we have a dedicated team of people that ensure that the papers are separated from the plastics, the metals from the wood and the soil from the stone.

When your waste has been sorted into different materials, we make sure to remove any products that can’t be recycled and dispose of them correctly. From there we ensure that the recyclable materials are passed on to the correct places.

Here at Wasteaway Nationwide, we understand how important it is to recycle. Here’s a fact that might shock you: Did you know that in the UK alone, there are approximately 13 billion plastic bottles used in a year and only 7.5 billion are recycled? That means 5.5 billion bottles escape household recycling and are littered, landfilled or incinerated.

We are proud to tell you that as an overall figure, we are usually able to recycle 90% of our received skip waste. We want to make sure we’re doing our part for the environment and reduce our carbon footprint and that’s why we are licensed by the Environment Agency who aims to contribute to creating better places for people and wildlife.

Are you looking to hire a skip for domestic or commercial use? We provide an affordable and reliable skip hire service across the UK. We do same-day and next-day deliveries subject to availability and even have a wait-and-load service where our drivers wait with the truck to take it away as soon as the waste is loaded!

Be sure to get in touch with us now to see how we can handle your skip waste.
